Your Mercedes-Benz maintenance cost depends on which visit is due, what it includes and what your model needs at that mileage. Here is what Service A and Service B cover, how often they come due, and what can add to the bill.
Your Mercedes-Benz maintenance cost comes down to three things. They are which visit is due, your model and engine, and any additional work due at that time or mileage. That is why two owners can pay different amounts for a visit with the same name.
Mercedes-Benz builds its schedule around two alternating visits. Its owner’s manuals add “additional work” on top of them, and the 2026 C-Class manual states that this work “is carried out and invoiced separately.” Knowing what each visit includes is the best way to predict your bill. For current offers, see our Mercedes-Benz service specials.
Mercedes-Benz USA schedules the first Service A at approximately 10,000 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first. The first Service B comes at approximately 20,000 miles or 1 year after the previous service. After that, each visit repeats approximately every 20,000 miles or 2 years, so in practice you alternate A and B about once a year or every 10,000 miles.
You do not need to track the dates yourself. Your ASSYST PLUS service interval display shows the time or distance left until your next service. The 2026 owner’s manuals say service comes due by time or by distance, depending on which threshold is reached first. The manuals use the ASSYST PLUS name rather than “Service A” and “Service B,” which are the names Mercedes-Benz USA uses for the two visits.
A low-mileage car still needs its yearly visit, because time counts as much as distance. If you top up or change the engine oil between services, the manual says not to reset the ASSYST PLUS service interval. Book online with our service scheduler when the reminder appears.
Both visits include a Mercedes-Benz motor oil and filter replacement, fluid checks, a tire inflation check and a brake inspection; Service B adds a cabin filter and a brake fluid exchange. Here is the Mercedes-Benz USA list side by side.
| Item | Service A | Service B |
|---|---|---|
| Mercedes-Benz motor oil replacement | Included | Included |
| Oil filter replacement | Included | Included |
| Fluid level checks and corrections | Included | Included |
| Tire inflation check and correction | Included | Included |

Source: mbusa.com Service and Maintenance, reviewed 09/30/2026. Model-specific items come from your vehicle’s Maintenance Booklet, and additional work is invoiced separately.
Because the brake fluid exchange is part of every Service B, your brake fluid is replaced about every other visit on this schedule. See our Service A maintenance special and Service B maintenance special for current offer terms.

Service B usually costs more because it includes two extra jobs: replacing the cabin dust or combination filter and exchanging the brake fluid. Each one adds parts and labor to the same oil service and inspections that Service A covers.
Mercedes-Benz USA also notes that Service B can take longer than Service A. If you need your vehicle back quickly, tell your advisor when you book. See our Early Bird and Night Owl drop-off offer for its current terms.

The cabin filter matters in Virginia’s pollen season, since it cleans the air you breathe inside the car. Separately, the 2026 GLS owner’s manual says to change the interior air filter more often if you drive in particularly dusty conditions or use air recirculation frequently.
Additional work is often the biggest variable in what you pay, because the owner’s manual adds some items by time and distance on top of Service A and B. The 2026 C-Class owner’s manual says: “Additional work includes maintenance work carried out due to technical requirements, in the event of wear or work carried out on any special equipment. This work is carried out and invoiced separately.”
The owner’s manual names items such as spark plugs, the engine air filter and, where fitted, the fuel filter, which are replaced “in accordance with the specified service interval.” The manual does not give mileages for these items. Your Maintenance Booklet and ASSYST PLUS display set the timing for your vehicle.
| Model | Item | When |
|---|---|---|
| S-Class (2021 and newer) | Secondary on-board 12V battery replacement | 20,000 and 40,000 miles |
| SL (2022 and newer) | Rear differential fluid | 30,000 miles |
| CLA and GLA AMG models | Rear axle oil, engine air filter, transmission oil and filter | 30,000 miles |
Source: Mercedes-Benz Premier Prepaid Maintenance coverage chart, reviewed 09/30/2026. The chart (form dated 12/24) shows what the prepaid plan covers, not your Maintenance Booklet. Mercedes-Benz adds: “Additional maintenance may be required according to your driving habits, mileage and local environment.”
Wear items are separate again. Brake pads, tires and wiper blades wear at a rate set by how you drive. Our brake repair and tire center teams can check them at your scheduled visit, so you can plan for them before they become urgent.
Your model, engine and driving conditions all change the bill, and Mercedes-Benz says some conditions call for more frequent service than the display shows. Some models carry model-specific items, like those in the table above.
Our own Service A and B specials show the effect. As posted on 09/30/2026, they applied to 2009 or newer model years, with pricing that varies by model, and excluded Maybach, some AMG models and models with “Magic Vision” wipers. See the offer pages for current terms.
The 2026 GLS owner’s manual lists “Regular city driving with frequent stops,” “Mainly short-distance driving,” “Frequent operation in mountainous terrain or on poor road surfaces,” “When the engine is regularly left idling for long periods,” and “Operation in particularly dusty conditions and/or if air-recirculation mode is frequently used.” In these conditions, it says to have the interior air filter, air filter, engine oil and oil filter, “for example,” changed more frequently, and to check the tires more often.
Stop-and-go traffic on Midlothian Turnpike and short errands around town fit that description. So does a daily run on Chippenham Parkway at rush hour. The manual also says the ASSYST PLUS display “serves solely as an aid,” and the driver is responsible for more frequent servicing if needed. Ask your advisor whether your driving calls for it.
Prepaid Maintenance can make your costs predictable, because Mercedes-Benz says it lets you “lock in” the cost of required maintenance services at today’s price. For new vehicles (less than 1 year old with fewer than 10,000 miles), it comes in 2-, 3- and 4-year packages. Coverage runs from 2 years or 20,000 miles up to 4 years or 40,000 miles, and you can buy a plan any time before the first service or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first.
You can prepay up front and in full, or build the cost into your monthly vehicle payment when you buy the plan with your vehicle. Mercedes-Benz says its prepaid plans are “transferable to a new owner if the vehicle is sold in a private sale,” and it refers owners to the agreement for “limitations, exclusions, transferability and cancelability.” Plans are honored at authorized Mercedes-Benz dealers in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, and plan visits must be performed at an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership.
Read the agreement before you buy. Mercedes-Benz says it “cannot be cancelled and is non-refundable, subject to any limitations under state law,” and that savings may vary by dealer and model. The Federal Trade Commission notes that a service contract you buy separately “is not a warranty as defined by federal law.” For used vehicles up to 8 model years old with fewer than 80,000 miles, Mercedes-Benz offers Star Prepaid Maintenance in 2- and 3-year plans. Buying a new Mercedes-Benz or a Certified Pre-Owned model? Ask about Prepaid Maintenance when you buy. Prefer to spread out a single visit instead? See our Sunbit service financing.
No. The Mercedes-Benz warranty booklet says maintenance “can be performed by any qualified service outlet,” although it recommends an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer. It also says warranty obligations “are not dependent upon the use of any particular brand of replacement parts.”
The Federal Trade Commission (Auto Warranties and Auto Service Contracts, April 2024) puts it the same way: “You don’t have to use the dealer for repairs or maintenance to keep your warranty in effect.” The FTC adds one condition: if the warranty says the work will be done for free, “the dealer or manufacturer can make you use repair facilities it chooses.” What does matter is doing the work on time. The booklet says “all maintenance services must be accomplished to keep your warranty coverage valid,” and it asks owners to keep receipts. Damage caused by skipped maintenance, or by parts or fluids not recommended by Mercedes-Benz USA, may not be covered.
Mercedes-Benz recommends Genuine Mercedes-Benz parts, and you can order them through our parts department or online parts ordering. Ask your advisor which parts your visit will use. Read more about why owners choose Mercedes-Benz service, and check for open recalls at any visit.
Ask for a maintenance overview for your specific vehicle before you book, so you know which service and which additional work are due. The owner’s manual itself says you can get “an overview of maintenance work or potential additional work” from “a qualified specialist workshop, e.g. an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center.”

Follow these steps to keep each visit predictable.

The cost of Service A depends on your model and engine, plus any additional work due at that time or mileage. Mercedes-Benz says additional work is carried out and invoiced separately. For model-based pricing, see the current Service A maintenance special at Mercedes-Benz of Midlothian, or ask our service advisors for a quote.
Both visits include a Mercedes-Benz motor oil and filter replacement, fluid level checks, a tire inflation check, a brake component inspection and a maintenance counter reset. Service B adds a cabin dust or combination filter replacement and a brake fluid exchange, which is why it usually costs more and can take longer.
Skipping is not a good idea. The warranty booklet says all maintenance services must be accomplished to keep your warranty coverage valid, and failing to change the engine oil on schedule is considered lack of proper maintenance. Damage caused by missed maintenance may not be covered. Book when your ASSYST PLUS display says service is due.
No. The Mercedes-Benz warranty booklet says maintenance can be performed by any qualified service outlet, though it recommends an authorized dealer. The FTC says it is illegal for a dealer to deny your warranty coverage because you had routine maintenance done by someone else. Prepaid Maintenance plan visits are different: they must be done at an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership.
Not to keep your warranty. The booklet says warranty obligations are not dependent on any particular brand of replacement parts. It does recommend Genuine Mercedes-Benz parts, and it notes that Mercedes-Benz does not warrant other parts, which may affect coverage for certain repairs related to those parts.
ASSYST PLUS is the Mercedes-Benz service reminder in your instrument or central display. It shows the time or distance remaining until your next service, based on your operating conditions. The owner’s manual says it serves only as an aid, so more frequent service may still be needed under demanding conditions.
The owner’s manual lists items such as spark plugs, the engine air filter and, where fitted, the fuel filter, each on its own specified interval. Some models add items too, such as a secondary 12V battery on 2021 and newer S-Class models in the Mercedes-Benz prepaid plan chart. Ask for your vehicle’s overview before you book.
It covers routine maintenance every 1 year or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first, unless your Maintenance Booklet specifies otherwise. New-vehicle plans run 2, 3 or 4 years, and you can buy one any time before the first service or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first. Mercedes-Benz says the agreement cannot be cancelled and is non-refundable, subject to state law.
It can. The owner’s manual lists regular city driving with frequent stops and mainly short trips as demanding conditions that call for more frequent filter and oil changes. Stop-and-go traffic on Midlothian Turnpike and short errands fit that pattern, so ask your advisor whether your driving needs a shorter interval.
Brake fluid is exchanged as part of every Service B on the Mercedes-Benz USA schedule. Because Service A and Service B alternate, that works out to about every other scheduled visit. Your Maintenance Booklet is the final word for your specific model and model year.
