The Mercedes-Benz Greater Richmond Open & 40s Championships were held at Salisbury Country Club from June 18-21. This “City” tournament, dating back to the 1950s with the Richmond Tennis Association, has crowned the strongest players in men’s and women’s singles and doubles. The summer heat was met with cool nights and extraordinary tennis. Music, two Mercedes-Benz models on display, popsicles, and a bustling crowd watched over 115 players compete for the awaiting trophies.

Virginia Commonwealth University tennis player German Samofalov won the men’s singles and doubles with partner Alexander Roumpis, who is also a VCU player. Sia Chaudry, who will be playing for William & Mary this year, won the women’s singles and doubles with partner Olivia Wright, a University of Connecticut player.

The mixed doubles title was claimed by former JMU players Tate Steinour and Jona Roka. Local tennis pro Romain Albert from Westwood Club won the men’s 40+ singles, while the men’s doubles was once again won by Dan Cordrey and Konstantin Dombrovsky. The women’s 40+ doubles winners were Lauren Palmer and Suzie Spiller.

Mercedes-Benz of Midlothian is a proud and active supporter of Richmond tennis. Congratulations to all tournament winners!
